Costa Rica is a Republic that enjoys a stable democracy more than 100 years old and is one of the few countries in the world without an army. The military budget is then destined for Health and Education, being the reason why it possesses a National Health Care system with universal coverage and its population shows a 97% rate of literacy.

A small country with big volcanoes

Despite comprising only 51 100 square kilometers, it is said that its varied geography allows to enjoy volcanoes, jungles and beaches in a single day! Costa Rica is crossed from North to South by a volcanic mountain chain with more than 100 volcanoes of which a dozen are active and can be visited.

Two oceans 200 kilometers apart

This mountain chain, coming to almost 4000 meters high in the Cerro Chirripó, clearly marks both slopes of the country: the Pacific slope and the Atlantic slope.

Both oceans, the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, are separated by a distance of less than 200 kilometers in a straight line, and offer countless wild beaches to satisfy the different tastes of all visitors.

20% of the territory is in protected zones

You will be able to relax under the sun, go diving, sports fishing, surfing or follow whales and dolphins at dusk, enjoying always very varied infrastructures that go from picturesque, one-of-a-kind lodges to 5* hotels according to international standards.

In addition 20% of the country’s surface is protected as National Parks or Natural Reserves which allow its flora and fauna to be observed in their own different habitats, managing to gather in its forests up to 5% of the world’s biodiversity.
